And Then They Went on a Date

Tony is finally off of his Immunosuppression drug. Therefore, he still has to be careful, but he can do more now. Soooooo we got to go see the Corpse Flower this morning at the Botanical Garden. It was supposed to be blooming yesterday and today, but as you can see, it has still not quite bloomed. It only blooms once every few decades and when it does bloom, it is only for 24-48 hours. Maybe we will try it again tomorrow. Anyway, as you can see, it is super huge. That's part of the reason it is so cool (and part of the reason why it doesn't bloom very often. It has to build up the energy). It is called the Corpse Flower because when it blooms, it smells like rotting flesh. Pretty cool, eh? (The things that pollinate it are like, dung beetles and stuff, so it needs to smell really bad, and make that smell carry a good distance to draw in the pollinators).

Jack really liked the children's part of the Botanical Gardens. He loved playing in this fountain...

And so did this kid... (he kept drinking the water..)

And to top off an already wonderful day, Tony and I actually got to....wait for it..... go out to eat! The doctor said he could go to "restaurants we trust." (In other words, no McDonalds or Taco Bell). So we went to Beni Hana! (During your birthday month, they send you a 30 dollar Gift Certificate towards dinner). It was delicious. I have never had steak so perfectly cooked. And our chef was really fun. As you can see, the rice was in a heart shape. And to top it off, at the end they gave me sherbet ice cream with a candle in it and sang me a Japanese Birthday song.  (There were 3 couples at our table and each couple had one birthday person there, so they made us get up and dance to their birthday song).

  2. Dear Brittany, You have a lot of reasons to get up and dance. While you know your birthday has always been important to me, the good news about Tony is wonderful.

Looks like Jack has a lot more hair now, and he is always cute. If you ever see a contest to decide the cutest Daddy/Baby photo, you must enter those pictures of Jack's reaction when he was finally reunited with Tony. They are classics. Jack is so lucky to have you and Tony as his parents. I love you, Grandma Lewis
