Big Truck Day

There is a city about 25 minutes from us that does what is called "Big Truck Day" every year. When I heard about it, I knew we needed to go. (Plus it's free).

I told Jack that we were going to see some big trucks and his face lit up. He ran and put his shoes on and then grabbed my shoes and tried to help me put them on. He was gonna see big trucks. This was urgent.

Essentially, they get a bunch of tractors and other big trucks and line them up. They set hay bale's next to them so they are easier to climb into, and then they shut off any and all power, and have many city helpers to ensure everyone stays safe. Jack loved sitting in every single seat (multiple times I might add)

Doesn't he look like a truck driver. This boy was in heaven for sure.

He also got to meet a few firemen, and sit in their seat. The firemen told him all about what they do.

He also loved the big wheel. And then, the firemen got a call, and Jack got to watch them turn on their sirens and speed off.

Then it was snack time. They provided chips and cookies and lemonade, (a 2 year olds dream snack).
(The hard hat was a gift they give to everyone as they come in. Jack went back at the end and asked very nicely for a pink hard hat as well, and then one for his friend Rafa. He was actually pretty easy to understand. I was so proud, and the guy didn't mind giving Jack a few extras.

This was of course a favorite. You can control the stop light with the switch box. (Some people just want to watch the world burn. Jack made all 3 lights turn on at one point).

Look at how focused he is. When a boy came up and wanted a turn, he walked over and handed it to him. (Again, I was so proud!)

Jack loved being able to turn all the buttons on and off in the trucks as well. How often do kids get this kind of opportunity? I thought this whole things was such a great idea!

And here is Jack running (come on Mom, hurry up. There are more trucks to see).

He loved messing with the seat belts. He is big into belts and buckles right now. And he knows that we always buckle up before we go anywhere in the car.

And last but not least, this was his favorite truck. It is a street sweeper, so there are steering wheels on both sides. If you move one wheel, the other one moves too. He laughed and laughed and laughed, and after that, none of the other trucks were quite cool enough with only one measly wheel. :)

  1. Dear Brittany, Jack is really in his element with the trucks. I've never seen anything any cuter than him taking control of those trucks and lights. He should have asked for another hard hat to give to your Dad. Your Dad has a photo of himself up in a big truck - you may have already seen it. For some reason, he has very few young photos of himself, but this one shows him as liking the same things as Jack. That was such a great thing for them to do, making access to these trucks available to kids as young as Jack. I love you, Grandma Lewis

  2. Jack is so cute! If I were at Jack's age, I'd so totally bug my mom to go to the "Big Truck Day". Kids are always fascinated by huge things, and trucks definitely fit the bill. What's even better is that Jack got to play with actual trucks! How cool is that? It is nice to see that he loves the street sweeper. Was he able to see the sweeper in action?
